Lecture by Nil Mutluer and Sevcan Yağan on "Gender, sexuality and Beyond

In modern world order woman and man are positioned as their binary oppositional others.

Men are positioned as superior to women.

Men still dominate the upper echelons of government and business whereas women generally continue to perform most of the unpaid labor and of housework and child care.

Women generally earn less than men for comparable work.

Professions dominated by women are less valued monetarily than those dominated by men.

What are the gender characteristics and prejudices attributed to women and men in your societies? What influences the formation of gender stereotypes?

What images of families are represented in classroom photographs, calendars, and story books? Are families with one male and one female parent the implied “norm,” or are other family constellations including ones with one parent or two mothers or two fathers also visible?
